Viewpoint (2022)

Performance with audience participation.

Co-Production :  Project Ypsilon

Technical Design :  YEODA

GNMR, Essen, Germany

The space is divided into a total of four sections. The audience enters each section in small groups at timed intervals. The audience is faced with a situation where they must choose from three sections in total. Their choices lead to performances. The selections from each group are played in succession, resulting in one piece. The performance, <Viewpoint>, also tells the story of how society is constructed through the act of one individual observing another. The influences exchanged unintentionally or intentionally as they are seen by each other have, whether desired or not, shaped the form in which we currently live.

In the spatial/installation section, individuals in each segment can see each other in succession as they exit their respective segments. While feeling empowered by observing others, as soon as they move to a different segment, the experience of being observed by someone else, even while observing others, becomes a part of the story we seek to convey.
